Selecting a special diamond engagement ring to propose to your loved one is no easy task; in fact it's a concept that has challenged men the world over since the 1400s.

As the owner of the Brisbane Lannah Dunn fine jewellery boutiques and with over 25 years experience in the industry, Lannah and her design team travel to Europe several times a year to hand select antique pieces and look for inspiration for her modern collection.

"An engagement ring is an important step in the time-honoured tradition of marriage and purchasing an antique ring will mean the history behind the piece may be passed on for generations to come," Mrs Dunn said.

Each antique ring is hand crafted by artisans and has its own personality linking us to the romance of the past. Of mostly French and English origin, these pieces create a sense of nostalgia.

"Folklore suggests the third finger on the left hand has a vein leading directly to the heart. It's only natural to wear the engagement and wedding rings on that finger."

"There is a sense of mystery in a hand-crafted antique piece; it's a personal choice that reflects the wearer's individual taste."

"For the modern jewellery lover, we have established the LD Modern Collection which is designed in-house and crafted to the highest standard, influenced by European styles from our many overseas buying trips," Mrs Dunn said.

"I think it's wonderful to have something inspired by the beauty of bygone eras and different from what anyone else has. It is also special in that it represents the future a couple will have together," Mrs Dunn said.

The first Lannah Dunn boutique opened in Toowoomba in 1985, when Lannah decided to share her passion for fine jewellery with Queensland's antique jewellery devotees. Since then, Lannah has grown her business to include a store in Ascot, Brisbane and the flagship store in the Tattersall's Arcade, Brisbane City.
